| I learned on my local news channel that two new words were added to the dictionary recently. "OMG" and "LOL" are now official dictionary words. Discuss. | |

| yea saying lol and omg to a teacher and the teacher would say "use proper words next time" and the other guy can say "but they're real words now", imagine the look on the teachers face after that | |

| I'll have to do a little reserch on this, I would love it to happen because these slang words are becoming part of everyday life. Even adults use slang sometimes, which scares me somewhat | |

| Apparently, OMG has its roots dated back to 1917, LOL used to mean "little old lady" during the 1960s, and FYI made its mark in the corporate word in 1941. So you see, the initialisms have changed over time just like many other words in the English language so perhaps the addition into the Oxford English Dictionary isn't the beginning of the end.
