What determines a n00b in Pokemon?

First topic message reminder :

So I was thinking about this question the other day: What determines if someone is a n00b in Pokemon and competitive battling?

The term n00b is tossed around the gaming world to mean someone with out skill, although it is derived from the word newbie, meaning a new player. Now in Pokemon would the determination of someone's skill be based on simply the Pokemon they choose to use, or how they use them? I know that someone can use Pokemon from higher tiers and completely fail in the utilization of those Pokemon so the answer in this case would probably be "the utilization".

But let me give another example: My friend has always favored Ice and Water type Pokemon (and a Pinsir). People may look at his team and say "that team is totally dumb, etc., etc." But my question is, "If he knows how to utilize his team to the best of their abilities (IV's and EV's, abilities, moves, etc.) and has planned out strategies around them, then is he still a n00b for his Pokemon selection?" Please discuss. I would like to hear from what others have to say.

i heard that n00bs use Ubers because they think they're powerful and use them in casual play a lot and thinks they're legit in tourneys

A noob didn't know what a uber was and used Giratina. So i told him about ubers, but he came back with a acked garchomp wich had dark void.

That's sounds really noobish. Garchomp isn't uber on gen 5 btw but it shouldn't have dark void.

n00bs hack pokemon with moves AND abilities it shouldn't have (i.e. Wondertomb - spiritomb with wonder guard)

I think the hacking stuff is a little stupid. Its pointless!

On platinum i hacked my pokemon's abilities and moves for training. I never used them slagainst. I made a wondertomb on pbr to see if foresight and firefang really work and they do. I also saw how my team would stack up against a pure power and choiced scarf regigigas and slaking. Noobs try to use flamethrower on a heatran when it's not even a switch in.

1. Uses legendaries and Ubers
2. Uses only pure damage moves, no regard for stat boosting or status moves
3. Belives their Pokémon is good simply because its level 100 (has no knowledge of natures, EV's or IV's)

Your pokemon selection has NOTHING to do with your skill. i myself have used unevolved pokemon like Servine and have defeated OU battlers, and i've been playing pokemon since generation 2. the way you USE the pokemon is what determines you as a noob or not.

Things that signify a noob:

-The person uses more than 3 or 4 Ubers. most commonly Zekrom and reshiram.
-The person has a HUGE ego and thinks they're the best battler on the site / server that they're on. they usually put in all capital letters that they are in this case in their profile / signature. To try and conjure that they, in fact, are better than you.
-They use "recharge moves". An example would be Hydro Cannon.
-They think that there is no way they could get better.
-They're from Serebii.

It signifies but doesnt necessarily MAKE you one. there are really really rare cases (like porygon-Z) where recharge moves are okay. if you're using Hydro Cannon or something like that, you're better off with surf. Flamethrower (or even Fire blast) outclasses Blast burn, and Energy Ball outclasses frenzy plant. can't think of other recharge moves off the top of my head.

btw, FRENZY PLANT SERPERIOR.

A great example of someone who knows what they are doing:
I send out Haxorus (252atk,252spd,6hp)
Opponent sends out Hariyama
I, not expecting much of the Hariyama, uses Dragon Dance, once I set up one of these, I am usually unstoppable.
Hariyama uses belly drum, still ignorant of the danger I was in, I dont worry about it at all (I know I am faster then it)
Hariyama then, to my suprise (though I should have seen it comming) uses bullet punch, OHKOing my Haxorus. This trend continues, until all six of my Pokemon (Archeops, Salamence, Ferrothorn, Chandelure, and Armaldo) are defeated. The moral of the story? Do not underestimate your opponent simply because he is using an unpopular Pokémon.

Noobs don't understand the difference between Atk and Spa. You make a good point on not underestimating your opponent.I almost lost to a purloin using swagger one time,luckily my garchomp(who is not uber in gen 5) managed to take down all 3 of my opponent's pokemon.

i used to be one of those people who uses only attacking moves, but now i've learnt the importance of stat boosting moves

I'll admit, recharging moves are powerful, but there are many moves that outclass it, like Markiss said. And the recharge turn could be your downfall.

some moves might be better for some but worse for others, for example:

most people would think that thunderbolt would be the better move for kyogre since it has 100% accuracy, when in reality Thunder is the better move for kyogre since kyogre's ability summons rain, and thunder has 100% in rain with 30% chance of breaking protect

in summary thunder is a better move for kyogre than thunderbolt

The 30% chance of breaking through protect and detect is only true for diamond and pearl it doesn't work from platinum on.

Noobs dont know strategy. They think they can win with Arceus and Charizard.

noobs think they're good using ubers and a lot of the times their ubers don't even have good stats like a guy who had a mewtwo with 350 SPA .

IMO, a n00b is someone who does stupid stuff in battle.

noobs are people who don't learn about every pokemon they would rather choose a pikachu over a lanturn (which is a great pokemon)
